The Placemaking Edition—a project from Make Something Edmonton and CITYlab was adapted as a viable assignment for the Transforming Spaces of Communication course. The brief from Make Something Edmonton for this project asked for placemaking projects which were small scale, safe, legal, temporary and inclusive; innovative projects which re-imagined a public space. As part of the class requirements in answering this call for submission, students were required to articulate communication concepts and how they might be accomplished, visually research a number of potential locations, and present this research in class before deciding on a final site. Specific quidelines outlined within the submission to Make Something Edmonton (questions regarding why, how, and feaseability of project) were adhered to for the course assignment.
